MEET DR. WHITNEY AND HER TEAM
Meet Dr. Whitney Buechel of Smile Doctors in Fort Mill! Smile Doctors offers a breadth of orthodontic services for kids and adults who are looking to gain a confident smile through a customized orthodontic treatment plan.
Dr. Whitney joined Thomas & Leitner Orthodontics in 2017 and continued with the practice when they partnered with Smile Doctors in 2019. As the only orthodontist at the practice, it was important to Dr. Whitney to build an intelligent, supportive team who loves her patients as much as she does. This enthusiastic team of women prides themselves on building rapport and trust with patients while easing any nerves.
They love what they do, and it shows! Smile Doctors is a great support system of other top tier orthodontists. Their motto is "we're better together," which is the same sentiment Dr. Whitney shares with her team.
WHEN TO SEEK ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
With state-of-the-art technology, Smile Doctors offers orthodontic services such as Invisalign®, braces, retainers, Smile Express®, plus a 3D model after treatment (this comes in handy if you lose a retainer!).
The general recommendation is to see an orthodontist at the first recognition of a problem, but no later than the age of seven. Very rarely is orthodontic treatment needed that early, but it has many benefits. Dr. Whitney can establish a relationship of trust with the patient, provide guidance and intervention when needed to address deleterious habits (such as thumb sucking), and facilitate the transition from primary to permanent teeth. And guess what? You don't need a referral!
Though early treatment is sometimes recommended to address functional issues, there are non-orthodontic preventative measures that can reduce or even eliminate the need for a first phase of orthodontic treatment altogether. Dr. Whitney feels passionate about seeing kids early, because it can reduce the need for surgical treatment down the road.
WHY ORTHODONTICS
Dr. Whitney is a perfectionist, which she admits is a blessing and curse. Fortunately, she has put it to good use in her orthodontics profession where it is a strength! As a child, her orthodontic journey had such a positive impact on her life that she loves facilitating that change in others.
The transformation, both dentally and psychologically, keeps her going because it can be life changing. Not only does she get to be a part of kids' transformative years as they grow up, but she also has a passion for safely reshaping teeth, called enameloplasty.
BACKGROUND + FUN FACTS
Dr. Whitney is from Columbia, SC, but was drawn to Fort Mill's great schools and proximity to Charlotte, NC. She and her husband (her high school sweetheart!) enjoyed the change of pace. They immediately fell in love with the small town feel and sense of community.
They love Anne Springs Close Greenway. With three kids (ages 8, 6, and 1) they have a lot of energy to burn off, so you'll often find them running on trails, splashing in the river, admiring horses, and searching for skunks! When they're not exploring nature or their neighborhood trails, you might find Dr. Whitney reading (most likely to her kids), gushing over Lego creations, or whooping it up on the tracks of MarioKart, where she claims she's the champ.
