New RevWar Brew Trail Combines York County History and Craft Beer
If you're looking for a fun way to explore York County this summer, the new Rev War Brew Trail is worth adding to your list.
Launched by Visit York County on July 4 and running through Labor Day, the trail celebrates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution by pairing York County breweries with local Revolutionary War landmarks. The result is a unique experience where visitors can sip limited-edition, history-inspired beers while discovering the people, places, and events that helped shape our nation.

Fort Mill's Revolutionary Connection
Fort Mill's stop on the trail brings together Amor Artis Brewing and the Fort Mill History Museum to create one of the trail's most unique beers.
Named Spratt's Draft, the beer honors Thomas Spratt, a Revolutionary War Patriot and member of one of Fort Mill's founding families. But the story goes beyond the name.
Head brewer Travis Tolson recreated a style of beer commonly enjoyed during the Revolutionary era known as small beer. During the 1700s, brewers used a process called parti-gyle brewing, making two beers from the same grain. After brewing a stronger ale, they brewed a lighter, lower-alcohol beer from the remaining grain—a practical way to make the most of valuable ingredients.
The result is Spratt's Draft, a refreshing 2.9% ABV table beer that offers visitors a literal taste of history.
Small beer wasn't just popular—it was an everyday staple. Because clean drinking water wasn't always available, families and soldiers alike relied on it as a safer beverage. Even George Washington recorded his own recipe and had small beer brewed for his troops during the Revolutionary War.
It's a fitting tribute to York County's Revolutionary roots and a creative way to experience local history beyond the pages of a textbook.

At Rock Hill’s Slow Play Brewing, visitors can enjoy Waves of Grain, inspired by the wheat harvest that played a surprising role in the events leading up to Huck's Defeat. The beer is paired with Historic Brattonsville, where Patriot Martha Bratton famously refused to reveal her husband's whereabouts to British troops before the Patriot victory at the Battle of Williamson's Plantation.
In Fort Mill, Replay Brewing partnered with the Anne Springs Close Greenway to create Forty Wagons Ale, recognizing the historic Nation Ford Road that once served as an important route for troops, supplies, and messengers traveling through the Carolina backcountry during the Revolution.
Meanwhile, Working Theory Brewing honors one of the South's most significant Revolutionary War victories with Kings Mountain Victory Kölsch, celebrating the Patriot triumph at Kings Mountain National Military Park—a battle widely considered a turning point in the Southern Campaign.
A Different Way to Experience York County
The RevWar Brew Trail was created by Visit York County as part of South Carolina's SC250 commemoration and builds on the popularity of the YoCo Brew Trail. It also complements the Backcountry Revolution Trail, a regional initiative connecting Revolutionary War sites across seven counties in the Olde English District.
