Why Fort Mill Boys Should Lace Up With Let Me Run This Fall

This fall, boys across Fort Mill have the chance to discover more than just a love of running. Through Let Me Run, a national nonprofit program with a thriving local branch here in Fort Mill, boys in 3rd–8th grade can build confidence, friendships, and healthy habits that last far beyond the finish line.

What Is Let Me Run?

At its core, Let Me Run is a wellness and character-building program for boys that uses running as the vehicle for growth. Over the course of seven weeks, teams meet twice a week with trained coaches who lead them through workouts, team-building activities, and guided discussions on topics like positive competition, respect, and emotional well-being.

The season culminates in a celebratory 5K race, where boys get to test their endurance and celebrate their progress—not just as runners, but as teammates and individuals.

Why Fall Is the Perfect Time to Run

Fall is made for running—cooler mornings, crisp air, and the kind of energy that comes with a new school year. It’s also the perfect time for kids to get outdoors, cut down on screen time, and channel their energy into something that builds both body and mind. Running encourages:

  • Stronger physical health – improving endurance, coordination, and overall fitness.

  • Confidence and self-esteem – kids see tangible progress with every mile.

  • Emotional wellness – the program teaches boys how to express themselves and support one another.

  • Healthy routines – with a consistent practice schedule, running becomes a natural part of their week.

More Than Running

While running is the foundation, the true mission of Let Me Run is to empower boys to be their authentic selves. Lessons explore topics like teamwork, overcoming setbacks, and celebrating differences. Boys are encouraged to value personal growth over competition, cheering on their teammates just as much as they celebrate their own milestones.

For many families, the most rewarding part isn’t the 5K at the end—it’s watching their boys develop resilience, leadership, and a sense of belonging throughout the season.

How to Get Involved

  • Families: Registration for the fall season opens September 4, 2025, at 10AM EST. Teams will begin practicing on the week of October 13.

  • Coaches: Volunteers are always needed to lead teams. Training and resources are provided—no coaching background required, just a willingness to encourage and support kids.

  • Supporters: Donations and sponsorships help ensure every boy who wants to run gets the chance, regardless of financial circumstances.
