Fort Mill is known for its outstanding school system, and Springfield Middle School has upped the ante. In partnership with local charity Education Equals Hope through their One School. OneHope. initiative, students recently raised $12,000 for their sister school in Cavaillon, Haiti, where Hurricane Matthew and an earthquake caused tremendous devastation to a local school.
By reading the book I Will Always Write Back, which reveals a real-life friendship of an all-American girl and an impoverished Zimbabwean boy, who began a friendship as pen pals, students began to learn what it means to be global citizens and understand how small acts of kindness and generosity can provide hope for students in hopeless situations.
In partnership with Education Equals Hope, SMS contributed to various fundraising opportunities throughout the year, both big and small, to help their sister school in Haiti.
Hats off to these compassionate students!
